Back-to-School 2026: Starting the School Year with Confidence

Our 2026 Back-to-School Event was about more than school supplies, new shoes, or haircuts. It was about helping children begin the new school year with confidence, dignity, and the feeling that their community is behind them.

At CARE Complex, our mission is to support individuals and families experiencing housing instability, and part of that work means removing the financial barriers that make successful independent living harder to maintain. Back-to-school season can be especially stressful for families already working with limited resources. Parents want to provide everything their children need, but too often they are forced to make impossible choices between groceries and shoes, paying a bill and purchasing new clothes, or meeting one essential need at the expense of another.

That is not a calculation any family should ever have to make.

At CARE Complex, we believe that deeply.

This year, 289 families and 513 children joined us for our annual Back-to-School Event. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, and community partners, more than 500 backpacks and 300 pairs of shoes were made available to local families, along with 802 lunches and a full day of support designed to help children begin the school year with confidence.

But the impact of the day can’t be measured by numbers alone.

It was in the excitement of a child choosing a new backpack. It was in a fresh haircut before the first day of school. It was in a new pair of shoes and the confidence that comes with feeling ready to walk through those classroom doors. And it was in the relief of parents knowing that some of the financial weight they had been carrying was a little lighter.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible community that came together to make it happen.

To every organization, business, donor, partner, and volunteer who helped make Back-to-School 2026 possible: thank you.

Together, we did more than prepare children for another school year. We reminded hundreds of families that they are supported by a community that believes in them.
